Murphy's Law

(Mar 09) Buy a snowblower and it won't snow. Poor Jerry. He so wanted this snow blower. For the past few years, he's come in with his black beanie and gloves on and said, "I swear, this is the last year I am going to shovel." The tax return came, there was a sale, he called fom Home Depot, I agreed, it was bought, and then..... no snow.

I think he had it for weeks. Then finally...it came. Ever so little, but it came. I think, and I think he knew too, if he waited an hour it would have just melted off by its self, but he plowed and he was happy.
Maybe this winter will be the worst snow fall of the century. If so, wave to him as you as you drive by.

streak is definatley broken

(Mar 09) Well, the streak is definatley broken. After a long dry spell, Jack heads back to the hospital. If you remeber he hadn't been to the hospital since he was about six. A nice streak of good health and a non-burden to the insuance company. Then last year, while visiting Eric in Colorado, he spliced his toe open. I thought it was just a fluke and Jack would be back to his good fortune. But now I am sure..... the streak is over.

We took him back to the hospital in March. Infact, he went first to InstaCare and then over to the hospital (why have one bill when you can have two). He had gone to a Boy Scout campout over at Five Mile Pass and had woke up that morning to a very high fever. He had gone ahead and tried to jog that morning (my crazy son) but stopped soon after. He went to his tent and was shivering and complaining he had a huge headace and his back hurt. They called us and told us they were bringing him home. The scout leader mentioned menangitis and it was in the back of my head too. We took him to InstaCare and the doctor was concerned. He ran a series of tests that made him believe it wasn't menangitis. After taking a Flu test, he said he didn't think it was that either. At that point he said we better go to the hospital to make sure.

After a couple hours at the hospital, it was decided it must be a virus or indeed a flu. By the next day he was feeling so much better. And his mom and dad were so much happier! No more hospitals, PLEASE!

Siegfried's Deli

20 W 200 South, Salt Lake City
"The Scene if you like huge, steamy bratwurst, German potato salad, cooked cabbage, and schnitzel, this Bavarian deli with a small dining room is the place for you. It's one of the few places in the area that specializes in German food, and you'll see many native Germans come in for takeout or to buy the ingredients to make dinner at home. The FoodSandwiches are sold, along with bread, meat, and cheese, all freshly sliced. Black Forest Cake is a Siegried's specialty, and many people order their layered cakes for special occasions. You'll also find a variety of chocolates and European cookies." Four 1/2 Stars

(Feb 09) Last year Dana and I found this cute little deli. We were a little early for our show at the Capitol Theater, and it was right next store. We tried some chocolate and Dana got some mints, that we later found out were cough drops, yuk. Everything was written in German. Guess we could have asked.
Later I was talking to Lyn (friend and neighbor), who is German and has spent a lot of time in Germany. She told us that she had been to the deli many times. She told us about the food and desserts and that we all had to go back. So the night the boys were on the Klondike, we took all our girls and went (Christina too, Dana's friend).
Lyn was our food guide and helped us make our choices. I had Wiener Schnitzel. I know you are thinking it is a hot dog of some sort. Wrong! It is a thin slice of veal coated in breadcrumbs and fried. It also came with a lemon wedge and I had them put gravy on it. I also had hot potato salad. Dana and Christina had spatzle, a type of egg noodles and small dumplings with gravy.
On to dessert. A big decision, as it was all beautifully dislayed in a huge case. Dana had an eclair, that promptly went in her mouth and I had the marzapan cake.
Do I look happy, becasue I am, VERY!
Oh, did I mention Dana brought a date. He was very quiet. Not really her type.
I should mention that I am German too (actually still in the air as to whether it is German, Polish or Luxembourg). My maiden name is Rossin. I was told it used to be spelled Rozzine, which in German means raisin. Figures.

"Lady in Red"

(Mar 09) Dana went to her first school dance in March. She and her good friend Christina met a bunch of other friends and danced the night away.
One day, when you see Jerry, you can ask him what it was like taking two teenage girls to the store to shop for dresses and shoes :)
"I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight. I've never seen you shine so bright...My lady in red." Chris de Burgh

Jerry's covet

(Feb 09) I'm sure he knows it's "not recommended" to covet your neighbor's things, but Jerry really loves Tom's new awesome firepit.

This picture was taken in February, out on the Dobson's driveway. No coats. Crazy unpredictable Utah weather. After hotdogs, we moved on to smores. I made Tom's dad his first smore! Can you belive that! A full wonderful life minus, melty, gooey, chocolatey smores. I think he liked it.

Klondike '09

(Feb 09) I had to start with this picture. Doesn't it look like one of those "Whack a Mole" games. Ok, back to the blog.Jerry and Hank ventured the annual Klondike this year up at Jordanelle Reservoir. Too bad moms can't go (hah!) Our ward had a nice plot of snow. Hank took a turn chopping wood. The Dobson's brought their nice outdoor fire pit. They had hamburgers, salad and smores for dessert.

This is Hank off to do a little tunnel repair. We had bought him new snow pants for the campout. We went to find snow boots but could not find any, in JANUARY! Go figure. We borrowed these from Trent. Thanks Trent. Hank also had gloves, a hat and I had bought a load of hand warmers. The boys didnt' feel the cold at all!
They made it through the night. I hear the eggs didn't though. They had even put them in one of the vehicles to keep them from freezing, but frozen they were.
Again...so sad moms can't go (hah!)
Hank: "It was freezing, freezing, freezing, f-r-e-e-z-i-n-g cold. But at the same time, it was the best campout I have ever experienced."
Jerry: "I was very fun, very cold. I'd do it again. I loved being with the boys. Thanks Tom for getting us fed."

a family that puzzels together stays together

(Jan 09) Here is our Salt Lake City puzzle. Our third puzzle actually. This followed the Christensen: Story Teller puzzle and the Cub Scout Day Camp puzzle. Next we started the 2000 piece, Coke puzzle. After no kitchen table for a few weeks, we put it back in the box. It now sits on top of the fridge. Bet you didn't know Jerry was a puzzler!

cheap and easy

(Jan 09) Hank's birthday is in January. That means, no pool parties, no barbeques, no paintball. For years we've been tested to come up with new, fun, cool party ideas. One year we invited all his friends to "Hank's Diner". We had a waitress (Dana) a server (Jack) and even a cook (Jerry). There were menus and orders were taken. Per your order, the cook fixed, hotdogs, hamburgers, tater-tots and for the health conscience, raw vegetables. All served in paper lined, red plastic baskets. And yes, we even had yellow and red mustard and ketchup squeeze bottles! Fry sauce? Ofcourse!
This year it was a struggle. Funds were tight (did I mention this was January, that's the Janurary right after Christmas). Movie, too much money. Boondocks, too much money.
After much thought, we decided to have a snowball fight party. Cool huh!? I looked outside and snow was somthing we had plenty of. What's that's saying, "If life gives you lemons..." We bought each boy a beanie (love that dollar store) and a package of hand warmers. They divided up into teams, had a friendly handshake and snowballs went flying.
Look at that picture! Snowball caught in mid filght! Who's that great photographer?
We had a big long sub sanwich for lunch.
Hank got a mini Lamborghini. Does his friends now him or what!?
Everything followed by an AWESOME COOL cake his sister made him (we watch a lot of Ace of Cakes around here). All in all another great party. Happy Birthday son. It's been a great 11 years. We love you!

still breathing, just too busy

Still breathing, just too busy. I missed a month of blogging and then I just got father and farther behind, kind of like laundry. What am I now...6 months behind! Infact, Hank came up to me yesterday and told me it was now his half birthday. He is now 11 1/2.

I could just start from today and go on from here, but... just like laundry, I have to do it all!
